Director Yang Yong-hee's latest work 'Soup and Ideology', known for 'Lovely Sonata' and 'Family Land', will be released on June 11th. [Image] "Soup and Ideology" (13 others) The Jeju April 3 Incident killed many residents on Jeju Island, South Korea. In this work, he turns his camera to his mother, who is currently suffering from Alzheimer's disease, and faces her life while scooping up fading memories. In addition to winning the White Goose Award, which is the Grand Prix of the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival 2021, and the Special Award of the Seoul Independent Film Festival 2021, it was also submitted to the International Competition section of the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival 2021. Yang Yong-hee said, "The title 'Soup and Ideology' contains the idea that even if we have different thoughts and values, let's eat together and live together without killing each other. It's a great story that can be told in one movie. Even so, I want to believe that one movie will lead to understanding of the world and reconciliation between people." The main visual of this work has also been completed. Designed by Kei Naruse, who was also in charge of "Fruits of Life" and "Merry Christmas on the Battlefield 4K Restored Version". Prior to the release, comments arrived from film director Hirokazu Kore-eda, author and essayist Yoko Hiramatsu, and actor Kim Yoon-seok, known for "Chaser" and "1987, The Truth of a Battle". The three comments are posted below. "Soup and Ideology" will be shown at Eurospace in Tokyo, Pole Pole Higashi-Nakano, Cinemart Shinsaibashi in Osaka, the 7th Art Theater and others. ■ Comment from Kim Yoon-seok (actor, film director) “Dear Pyongyang,” “My beloved Sonna,” “Family Land” ──While watching these jewel-like movies, I was most surprised and curious. was Omoni (mother). Soup and Ideology is a story about exactly that omoni. ■ Comments from Hirokazu Kore-eda (film director) “Those people” live right next to “us” and live believing in something different from “us”. Why did they live the way they did, why did they want to believe in things that "we" could not understand? Just as a daughter, who is also a director, understands her mother through filming, after watching this film, the line drawn between "those people" and "us" becomes thinner and thinner. ■ Comments from Yoko Hiramatsu (author, essayist) "Dear Pyongyang", "Kazoku no Kuni", and this work. Overwhelming intensity that bundles three works by director Yang. Follow the raw appearance of the naked mother, and the truth of the family that will soon appear will pierce your heart. ■ Yang Young-hee Comment This is the first time I have depicted the relationship between my family and South Korea. The title, "Soup and Ideology," expresses the desire to eat together even if we have different ideas and values, and to live together without killing each other. I know how much story one movie can tell. Still, I want to believe that one movie can lead to understanding of the world and reconciliation between people. I hope my work will be a positive catalyst for many people. (c) PLACE TO BE, Yang Yonghi
