In recent years, the US Indo-Pacific forces in charge of the Indo-Pacific region, including Japan, have called more strongly for this necessity, that is, the defense of Guam, which floats in the western Pacific. For example, at an online meeting hosted by a US think tank in March 2021, Admiral Philip Davidson, then commander of the Indian Pacific, commented: "budgeting for air defense and missile defense in Guam is my top priority." "my wish is to deploy defense capabilities to Guam in the near future," Bmurl 1 and BMel 2 succeeded the Bmur21 Reid, the strategic bomber in trial production, and Admiral John Aquilino, the Indo-Pacific commander who now succeeds Admiral Davidson, also said in November 2021.
There are roughly two reasons why the Indo-Pacific Army boasts of improving Guam's defense capabilities. One is the military importance of Guam. I heard that the impression of Guam and tourist destinations may be very common, but in fact, there is also an important military stronghold supporting the activities of US troops in the Indo-Pacific region. For example, the United States Air Force deployed BMY 52H, BMY 1B and BMel 2 bombers in the Indo-Pacific region for a period of time at Anderson Air Force Base in Guam. In addition, at the Apra military port in Guam, from nuclear aircraft carriers to Aegis ships to nuclear submarines, all ships of the United States Navy can dock and receive supplies such as ammunition and fuel.

The various military facilities in Guam are very important both in peacetime and in emergencies. For example, when North Korea and China have a military conflict with the United States, the first thing that may be targeted is the US military base in Japan. Therefore, if the missile hits the runway and port facilities, it will not be able to use for a certain period of time. On the other hand, if it is Guam, which is about 2600 kilometers away from Japan, the means of attack are limited because it is also far away from China and North Korea. In other words, various facilities in Guam can replace the US military base in Japan and become an important stronghold for the US military to counterattack after support. In other words, Guam is also very important to Japan's security. Another reason why the Indo-Pacific Army aims to improve the defense capability of Guam is that China is gradually improving its ability to attack Guam. So far, China also has weapons such as cruise missiles and ballistic missiles that can attack Guam. But now, because of its low flight altitude and orbit change, the existing ballistic missile defense system is developing hypersonic gliding weapons that are difficult to intercept. In addition, bombers, aircraft carriers, and destroyers are also marching toward the Pacific Ocean to continuously improve their ability to attack Guam from all directions. As I have just mentioned, Guam is one of the most important military bases in a military conflict with China and is likely to be attacked by these weapons in an emergency. Therefore, as the Indo-Pacific Army, in response to this situation, we advocate improving the defensive capabilities of Guam.
