[Hidenori Kimura's Tech Magic # 094] Over the last few years, mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras have become quite commonplace. It's been over 10 years ago that I bought Canon's "EOS 5D Mark II," which is a single-lens reflex camera that can also shoot videos. At that time, only professionals and some high amateurs had a type of camera that could change the lens, but nowadays even people who are a little interested in photography have a mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera and multiple lenses. I also switched to the "EOS R5" and enjoyed daily snapshots as well as work, but I was struck by the feeling that the value of one piece decreased as the functionality became higher. This may be the reason why high-quality cameras like the Leica, which are a little inconvenient, are attracting attention among high-end amateurs these days. I was wondering if this kind of time would come for me, who was always looking for the latest ones, but it was definitely better after changing to a slightly inconvenient camera, so I would like to share it with everyone. ● The smallest midfield digital has a different merit from the X1D The previously introduced X1DII boasted an exceptionally compact size at that time, but this time the 907X is even smaller. The photo shows the lightest XCD lens, 320g 4 / 45P, but the size of the main body stands out compared to the photo with the same lens attached to the X1DII. This is surprising because the sensor size is medium format. There are few buttons, most of the operations must be done by touching the screen, and the EVF is not installed, so of course the operability is inferior. However, this compactness has more convenience than that. The experience of raising the screen and looking into it from above like a waist level finder is also good, and above all, it's lighter, so I've come to take it out more than usual. The EOS R5 is also compact if you choose a lens, but it's too high-performance and the number of shots will inevitably increase. It is also conceivable that the accuracy and speed of focusing are extremely good. On the other hand, the autofocus of the 907X is slow and the accuracy is not good. As a result, I magnified it on the screen and manually adjusted it before taking the picture, but the one taken with the camera in perfect focus is the best. Since it is a manual adjustment, the rhythm until the shutter is released once is inevitably delayed, and many cannot be taken. The value of each piece increases because of careful shooting. When this happens, I suddenly want to take it out and take a picture. The 907X was a camera that wasn't as powerful as the EOS R5, but created an outstanding experience. ● The parts that were of concern with the X1DII have also been improved, and various improvements can be seen in terms of practicality in the perfect specifications. Although the image quality of the X1 DII was better than that of the EOS R5, I was worried about the weight, battery consumption, and touch screen sluggishness mentioned above. I also like the fact that all of these have been eliminated in the 907X. The battery life is particularly noteworthy, and it feels 2.5 times longer than the X1DII. When I carry the X1DII with me when traveling, I sometimes need three batteries and still don't have one for a day, but one 907X is enough for a day's shooting. Even with the EOS R5, there are times when I'm worried that I have to carry two of them, so this point is very good. The focusing point doesn't move freely like the EOS R5, and you can choose from several points, but if you use it mainly for manual focus, you don't mind. With Assist, you can zoom in to 100% just by turning the focus ring, so you don't have to tap the screen and it's extremely comfortable. You can now slide and magnify the shot images comfortably, so you can check after shooting with the same operation feeling as the EOS R5. I'm glad that the medium format digital camera, which was developed for studio use, couldn't realize the feeling of operation that is commonplace with the latest mirrorless cameras. ● The high expandability is also wonderful, the problem is ISO sensitivity? The 907X is so impeccable, but there are even better points. It's highly expandable. First of all, it is possible to add a grip to further improve operability in the state of 907X. Furthermore, the sensor part can be used as a digital back by removing it and attaching it to the 500C as it is. This makes it possible to enjoy old lenses with the same medium format sensor. There is no need for complicated settings, and it is also attractive that you can take pictures just by wearing it (* Depending on the model or individual, it may be necessary to select the model name or adjust the focus). However, it should be noted that it is weak against high sensitivity. Since color noise becomes noticeable, it is better to think that basically only ISO400 can be used. There is no problem with strobe photography, but the only weakness may be that a monopod or tripod is essential when the sun goes down. The 907X is full of charm as it gets longer just by telling you the good points. This time, I will post only one example at the end, but after a while, I will add a function such as example and development, wide dynamic range, and a function that allows you to shoot products with a deep depth of field without using tilt shift. I hope I can tell you. The medium format digital 907X is so practical that you won't have to bring out the EOS R5. It's expensive, but it's a little cheaper than Leica, and it's expandable, so there's room for consideration. (ROSETTA / Hidenori Kimura) ■ Profile Hidenori Kimura ROSETTA Co., Ltd.
