Lessons from the disaster for the next generation For disaster prevention, Sendai Disaster Prevention Future Forum Drone piloting experience #keep learning

Just before the 11th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake, a forum was held in Aoba-ku, Sendai to think about disaster prevention.

The "Sendai Disaster Prevention Future Forum" has been held by Sendai City since 2016 in order to use the lessons and experiences of the earthquake disaster for the next generation's disaster prevention. A record 95 organizations, including governments, universities, and private companies, participated in the event, which included panels that conveyed the situation at the time of the earthquake and an exhibition of disaster prevention goods. In addition, in the corner where beds and desks made of cardboard for evacuation shelters were exhibited, visitors were able to make cardboard crafts and experience piloting drones, which are useful in assessing damage in the event of a disaster. A child who participated in the cardboard project said, "I was amazed that the beds and desks at the evacuation shelter were made so hard and durable using only cardboard." A child who participated in a drone piloting experience said, "It's difficult to pilot a drone, so I thought it was amazing that I could pilot it properly." In addition, a quiz rally where people could get disaster prevention goods was held, and parents and children learned about disaster prevention while having fun.
