The iPhone 7 Plus is a smartphone that can take great quality photos and videos. There, a new successor "iPhone 8 Plus" appeared. Camera sensors have become larger, processors have become faster, and new features such as "portrait lighting" have been added to the software.
So how good are the photos and videos on the iPhone 8 Plus? Is there a difference that can be distinguished from 7 Plus in the first place? To verify that, I took my iPhone 8 Plus and 7 Plus and shot around the streets of San Francisco. Let me introduce the result of the camera showdown.
Where the difference in the photos is small
The first place I went to was Mission Dolores Park. The iPhone 8 Plus photos are generally slightly better in detail and saturation, with better highlight handling than the iPhone 7 Plus.

For comparison, both settings were set to auto (focus, exposure, HDR).
The iPhone 8 Plus, like Google's Pixel and Pixel 2, is designed to always operate in HDR mode. In fact, the setting to switch HDR on / off has been moved from the camera app to "Settings" on the iPhone itself. Apple's argument is that HDR is ready to use at all times. I agree with that.
Next, compare the same cat with the photo taken with the iPhone 7 Plus (left) and the photo taken with the iPhone 8 Plus (right).

Both are good, but the iPhone 8 Plus has better fur details and a slightly wider dynamic range of colors.
Next is the California Street cable car.

The photos taken with the iPhone 8 Plus have a slightly higher contrast.
