JBL's new gaming earphone cuts delay with 2.4GHz communication! #CES2022

Not Bluetooth

The word "gaming" has become attached to many product names, and wireless earbuds are no exception. JBL's new wireless earphone "Quantum TWS" is an item that prevents streaming delay with a 2.4GHz connection dongle.

This 2.4GHz dongle is a surprisingly common item, and I have used it with a mouse and keyboard from a certain company. It was appealing that it reduces lag even when connected to a mouse, but on the other hand, it was not possible to use it between different manufacturers, and it seemed a bit quirky to use.

Quantum TWS supports both 2.4GHz dongle and Bluetooth communication. The dongle is stored in the charging case of the earphone, and by inserting it into the USB Type-C port of a PC or game console, you can enjoy playback with less delay.

Interestingly, Quantum TWS can use both 2.4GHz dongle and Bluetooth communication at the same time. In other words, even when you are playing a game with a dongle connection, you can receive calls on your smartphone via Bluetooth communication.

As for the main body function, it supports adaptive noise canceling and IPX5 drip-proof specifications, and is equipped with a total of 6 beamforming microphones on the left and right. The playback time is up to 8 hours on the main unit alone, and up to 16 hours including the charging case.

Quantum TWS will be priced at $149.95 (about 17,000 yen) and will be released within the year. Personally, I have a feeling that simultaneous use of 2.4GHz communication and Bluetooth communication will be quite convenient. I wonder if Apple's AirPods series, which I love, will be able to use a similar mechanism.
