Funes: We have been using Fusion Studio as our primary VFX tool for many years. For this version of Spiral, we used optical flow image analysis a lot when creating the slow motion shots.
Slow motion footage often has missing pixels, so I used the optical flow tool to create intermediate frames and animate them to smooth out the footage. The optical flow tool identifies, duplicates and blends new frames. Additionally, it generates motion vectors to track them in the footage, so everything looks seamless to the viewer.
Also on Spiral, Malditomaus used Fusion Studio's motion tracking tools to stabilize shots, and rotoscoping tools like B-Spline and Bezier to correct images. Additionally, Fusion Studio's planar tracker was a great help during the green screen scenes in the film.
In this movie, there are several scenes where images are projected on televisions, monitors, and security cameras. For example, in the scene where the policeman is looking at the computer screen, I used Fusion Studio to composite the image of the OS onto the computer screen.
For some sequences, I was able to use Fusion Studio's camera tracker and motion tracking tools to match the movements and stabilize the image to fit the shot perfectly. I also used the DeltaDelta keyer to extract green/blue screen keys for clean plates, and the Luma/Primatte keyer to tweak precision details such as hair movement.
Malditomaus also used Fusion Studio's 3D particle generator to create the smoke and muzzle flash for the gunshot scene.
I used a 3D particle generator to create smoke and a point tracker to track the barrel. After that, I layered the particles to create a muzzle flash and shaped it with a mask. Combining these smokes with the muzzle flash, I was able to create a realistic effect for the gunshot scene.
