DRONEII, drone market sharing 2020 TOP10 release! What is the market share of American drones after the conflict between China and the United States? | | DRONE |

Introduction to the market share of drones

DRONE.jp partner Drone Indusry Insight Corporation (hereinafter referred to as: DRONEII) announced the 2021 version of the US drone manufacturer's market share TOP10.

It goes without saying that DJI has an overwhelming lead over other companies, but what happened after the trade war between the United States and China in 2020, which was once a coronal disaster?

Mr. FAA, published part 107.

The indicators of this assessment cover all drones registered in part 107 between January 2018 and July 2020. All registrations are valid for three years, so there is no need to update registration since its launch in early 2018. The drones described in part 107 can be used for commercial purposes. If it is a drone weighing less than 250 grams, there is no need to register. Drones registered in part 107 can be used to fly for entertainment purposes, but most drones only need to be used for commercial purposes.

As of 2021, the results of the survey showed that stocks in the drone market were basically unaffected.

First of all, there are no amazing changes. This matter is worth mentioning. DJI, Intel, Yuneec and Parrot still lead the list, but there are also some new drones OEM compared to last time. As a result, it also means that DJI's share has not fallen sharply so far.

In terms of market share of drones, DJI is almost a monopoly and remains unchanged. 76.17% of all finalists are Chinese companies. This is 0.7% lower than the ranking in mid-2019, but it can be said to be an error. Considering the size of this market force, it hardly moves.

The most registered drone is the Mavic Pro, which was launched in the second half of 2016. Mavic Air 2, which appeared in the spring of 2020, turned out to be a hit for two months during the data collection period.

In second place is Intel, which is famous for making semiconductors. About 98% is the familiar Shooting Stsr in mass flight, with hundreds of times the number used in drone performances. The number of drones used for testing by Falcon8 and Falcon8+ has almost halved compared with two years ago.

Yuneec can suppress Parrot Drones and defend the third place. DJI is also trimming its share, but considering that the overall market share of drones is currently just 2.6 per cent, a big drop of 0.5 per cent. Especially since mid-2019, the company in China has been under constant pressure to register a relatively small number of new registrations directly with competitors.

Parrot Drones, a subsidiary of France's Parrot, has 0.3 per cent of the drone market and ranks fourth with only 0.1 per cent of the 2.5 per cent Yuneec. French drone manufacturers have completely withdrawn from the market for Hobbit drones, focusing only on the commercial market.

In addition, DIU (Defense Of Innovation Unit)'s list of reliable sUAS options for the Department of Defense and the federal government includes Parrot Anafi-USA drones, which will undoubtedly have a positive effect on Parrot Drones in the future. So far, this has not changed from the 2019 target.

Autel Robotics also failed to maintain the market share of drones, with only the lowest loss, but ranked sixth. The closely watched models of drones in the commercial drone industry, "EVO II", "EVO II Pro" and "EVO II Dual" were launched just a few months before the end of data collection. In other words, it is interesting to see how this trio model will affect Autel's drone market share in next year's rankings.

The next company in the top 10 is Skydio, which was just founded in 2014. A few days ago, the company raised $17000 with a unicorn valuation of more than $1 billion, making it possible to accelerate global development and product development such as Japanese legal persons, and successfully increased the market share of highly automated drones by about 1/3.

This is the drone "Skybio2" launched in November 2019, which is mainly designed for professionals. In addition, the Skydio X2 and Skydio Dock with X2E (for commercial) and X2D (for military) versions also have many features that are expected to enter the commercial (and military) UAV space.

SenseFly, a Swiss fixed-wing maker and subsidiary of Parrot Group, has reduced its share to 1/3 amid Skydio's growing market share. America's most popular senseFly drones, the eBee X and the eBee Plus, have lost traction in the United States.

AeroVironment, a listed US drone company, is making unattended air systems for both commercial and military markets and is on the DIU list of reliable manufacturers in the United States. The company's market share of commercial drones has been roughly flat in recent years.

Although 3D Robotics and Kespry, ranked fifth and ninth, respectively, have pulled out of the hardware business, registered drones still have a sizeable share in the United States. The former focuses on UAV mapping software for construction and engineering experts, while the latter mainly develops end-to-end data collection and analysis solutions using hardware produced by third parties.

Conclusion and prospect

Although the turmoil in the drone industry does exist in recent years, the reality is that the change in the market share of drones by US manufacturers has not been affected in this way.

Allegations under the Trump administration that DJI obtained classified data from its own drones, and the resulting ban on the use of drones by US authorities, have not greatly removed market leaders.

This may be due to unclear evidence, a good price-performance ratio of DJI, or a relatively small number of affected institutions compared with the entire US drone industry.

Without these doubts, it is hard to tell whether market share has risen further. However, it also makes sense for other players in the market, it provides an excellent solution, and it is considered a great thing to continue to gain market share of drones in the future. In addition, it is interesting to see whether Sony's market access (launched this spring) will shake the balance of power in the US drone market.
